October has many things to celebrate or bring awareness to. There is the second half of Hispanic Heritage month, Breast Cancer/Health Awareness month, and National Bullying Awareness month.
If you didn’t know about that last one, don’t worry, just because the month is over doesn’t mean you have to stop learning or creating aware about it.
So, although the month is closing, I wanted to create awareness for the topic by inviting Dali Rivera of DaliTalks, Diversity & Anti-Bullying Coach, to be a guest on the podcast.
Why would I talk about bullying on a platform that is about consent culture and sexual empowerment? Because they’re related. Bullying is all about breaking physical, mental and social boundaries- it’s about power dynamics. Bullying is also the “younger” version of harassment that adults experience- many times for women, being sexual harassment. If we don’t deal with, and help our kids through, bullying situations (on either side of the situation), we are setting them up for it later in life. So this topic has so much to do with my platform, that I had to bring Dali on!
Here’s what went down!
In this episode, we talk about:
• Bullying and how we can be better advocates for our kids
• What types of bullying we should be aware of
• What signs to look for from our kids
• What we can do about it if it is happening
• What it means to be a bystander vs an up-stander and
• How bullying ties into sexual harassment.
This is such an important episode for all parents! Tune in!
And let me know what your takeaways were and how you’re going to apply them in your life!
